Mary Testing for New Film: The F Word!

Oh, I really hope she gets the role! I think we’ve all been dying to see her in a romantic comedy and Mary’s always expressed her wanting to act in this genre. Fingers crossed! :)

One of our favorite romantic comedy scripts of recent years is “The F-Word,” by Elan Mastai. Following Wallace and Chantry, two twentysomethings who meet at a party, and hit it off, but Chantry has a long-term boyfriend, and so the pair decide to remain friends, but struggle with their mutual attraction. It’s a familiar premise, but extremely well executed, with well-drawn, likable characters, and dotted with some ingenious animated sequences. Essentially, it’s like “500 Days Of Summer,” but without the female lead being a paper-thin cypher.

It made the Black List in 2008, and Fox Searchlight finally began moving forward on it in recent months; “In Search Of A Midnight Kiss” director Alex Holdridge was appointed a few months ago, and Casey Affleck landed the role of Wallace at the end of June. Now, according to the latest issue of Production Weekly (as usual, not online except for subscribers, but p. 7 if you do have access), four actresses are in the running to join him, and they’re some very high-caliber names.

The publication suggests that testing is underway for the role of Chantry, and that Rose Byrne, Rebecca Hall, Deborah Ann Woll and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are all likely to go before cameras to land the role; basically every young actress who’s too tall to play Lisbeth Salander… Production Weekly aren’t always 100% accurate, but this seems like solid info to us.

If nothing else, it suggests that Holdridge has a very keen eye for casting and Winstead is likely to be in demand after “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.”

Mary Talks Scott Pilgrim in New Interview

Comicus.it conducted a phone interview with  Mary on her role in Scott Pilgrim.  Read an excerpt below:

Hello Mary Elizabeth and welcome on ComicUs. Shall we start with the interview right now or do we have to defeat your seven evil ex-interviewer first…?

[Laughs] I think I’m going to give you the permission to start the interview, there won’t be any evil exes come calling.

Did you know the comic book by Bryan Lee O’Malley before taking the part? Did Edgar Wright recommend you all to read it as starting material or did he prefer you to concentrate on the script of the film version?

I read the books because Edgar Wright introduced me to them. I had a meeting with him and he told me he was going to be adapting these books to a film and thought I should take a look at them. So I went home and had the first three books, because that was how many were out at this time and I was blown away. I just thought, you know, EW combining that source materials would be such an amazing combination and I was so excited of being part of that project.

You have been involved in different action and fighting scenes too, were they hard scenes to perform?

Well, it was really challenging, and we trained for a few months together every day, eight hours a day, doing fight choreography and trainings. And we worked with an amazing stunt team who really wanted to bring out the best from us, and they kinda would watch out how it works and what work at it and what wont’ work at it. So in the end I was really able to do everything; it was really empowering to be in front of the camera and to be able to do all the stuffs. Too exciting.

Die Hard 5 is Imminent

Bruce Willis was at Comic-Con Thursday, promoting his role in Sly Stallone’s upcoming action flick The Expendables. When he was done with that, Mr. John McClane sauntered over to MTV where he dished on a few things — the most impressive of which was a proposed fifth installment in the Die Hard series. Yippie ki yay.

Willis told MTV that “It’s imminent. The coin is about to drop.” The actor didn’t offer much more than that, which is unusual since he’s been pretty vocal in his demand that director Len Wiseman return to helm the next film for awhile now.

Hopefully Mary returns! She’s expressed wanting to be in Die Hard 5 several times when asked about it so fingers crossed! :) Maybe she and Bruce talked about the next film at Thursday’s Comic Con? What do you guys think, would you like to see her as Lucy McClane again and kick some more butt?

Mary Talks Scott Pilgrim!

In an interview with this months issue of Total Film, the actress has gone into further detail about her role as Ramona Flowers in the upcoming movie which is set to be released on 13th August later this year!

On What She Thinks About Michael Cera:

“He’s like the coolest guy ever. I feel so lucky to be able to work with him because he’s so sweet and such a hard working actor. He’s really one of a kind!”

On Ramona Flowers Ever Changing Hair Color:

“It’s been cool for me! I’m more used to this than I am my normal hair now, so I’m going to be extremely bored with myself when this is over!”

On Weilding A Giant Hammer:

“I get to use it like a really cool weapon, kung-fu style. It was really fun to get to learn that and execute it in a way that looks cool on screen. It feels really rewarding. It was tough, but I definitely felt tough and crazy!”

On What She Thinks Of The Movie:

“The stuff I’ve seen so far is just ridiculous, it looks so awesome. There’s so much going on in this movie as it is. It’s going to be super fast-paced and crazy, and there’s going to be so much to take in. They’ve done a great job…”

Mary Attending Comic Con!

In what it’s dubbing “Scott Pilgrim vs. Comic-Con,” Universal is making sure that “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” will have its presence felt at the convention in advance of the movie’s Aug. 13 release.

Starting Thursday afternoon and running though the weekend, “Pilgrim” will take over the area across from the convention center near and in the Hilton Gaslamp to create an “immersive experience.” One of the experiences will be a “Pilgrim” room with a DJ spinning tracks and more importantly … a make-your-own-T-shirt stand where cast members will help construct shirts for fans.

That’s right: Stars Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anna Kendrick and even director Edgar Wright will take shifts to dress you.

“Pilgrim” will also be the centerpiece of Universal’s Thursday afternoon panel in Hall H. “Paul,” the studio’s sci-fi comedy about two geeks traveling to a comic convention, will bring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, among other cast members, on stage.
