Mary Elizabeth Winstead walks into the room and I’m meeting Ramona Flowers. It’s probably got something to do with the hair. Winstead plays the beautiful and enigmatic Ramona Flowers in Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. In the books by Bryan Lee O’Malley, one of Ramona’s trademarks is that she’s constantly dying her hair different colors. So when Ms. Winstead walked into the room during my visit to the set of the film last July, she was sporting green hair. It looked good.
But Ramona is more than a hairstyle. We spoke with Winstead about how O’Malley helped give her some background on her character, which was especially valuable since he had written the final book yet. We also talked about working a stunt-heavy film like this one, the film’s music, and working with Wright, among other topics. But I think what you’ll take away most from this interview is about how Ramona will be portrayed in the film, and it’s much deeper than just green hair. (… Read more)
Mary was spotted back in Toronto filming reshoots for ‘Scott Pilgrim’. Huge thanks to John over at CanadianTabloid for the photo!
Moviefone.com has done a round-up of who they think are the sexiest women of summer 2010 and our girl Mary made it on the list at #15 for her highly anticipated role in ‘Scott Pilgrim VS The World’. Mary’s description is as follows:
She Plays: Ramona Flowers, a girl with seven evil exes that her new boyfriend (Michael Cera) must defeat in order to date her.
Where Else You’ve Seen Her: As Bruce Willis’ daughter in ‘Live Free or Die Hard,’ and as a cheerleader in ‘Death Proof’/'Grindhouse.’
Why She’s Hot: Winstead had better be hot. In ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,’ she plays a girl whose new boyfriend must battle seven evil exes in order to date her. Luckily, Winstead, in both a pink and a blue wig for the role, comes off super punk-rock sexy in the film. Winstead was also beautiful au naturel as Bruce Willis’ daughter in ‘Live Free or Die Hard.’

The MPAA has announced today that Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, based on the comic series from Bryan Lee O’Malley, has received a PG-13 rating for “stylized violence, sexual content, language and drug references.”
This decision may have come as a surprise to anyone familiar with Wright’s previous movies Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, which were clearly R-rated for language, violence and other things; Michael Cera, who plays the title character, also first made his mark with the raunchy R-rated humor of Superbad. Clearly, the “F-word” wasn’t required in order to bring the more innocent nature of O’Malley’s work, which combines humor, romance and video game action, to the screen, meaning that fans of the comics under 17 won’t have to suffer seeing the movie with one of their parents.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World comes out on August 13.

The opening chapter of The Thing saga has added another name to its ever growing list of people who will hopefully end up meat for the beast.
According to IMDB (and confirmed), Jonathan Walker (Land of the Dead, “Smallville”) has signed on to tackle everyone’s favorite imitating alien. He’ll star opposite the already announced Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Dennis Storhøi, Trond Espen Seim, Jørgen Langhelle, Eric Christian Olsen, Stig Henrik Hoff, Jan Gunnar Røise, Kristofer Hivju and Jo Adrian Haavind.
Universal’s prequel to the John Carpenter classic The Thing is now shooting up in Toronto, Canada under the direction of Matthijs Van Heijningen. Look for more soon. (Source)
Out stumping “The Square” in the states, star Joel Edgerton was asked by Collider how his next project, the prequel to John Carpenter’s “The Thing”, compares to the original.
“[Director Matthijs van Heijningen]‘s not trying to reinvent the film. He’s certainly not trying to eclipse the film. He’s certainly not trying to remake the film. But, what he’s trying to do is tell the story “pre” that film”, explains Edgerton. “Whoever’s familiar with the film knows that very early on in the original the two Norwegian guys seem to have become crazy. One is blown up in a helicopter and the other one gets shot by the Americans and in order to find out why they went crazy, Kurt Russell goes in a helicopter to see and question the Norwegian base and when he gets there it’s been decimated and they find the carcass of this “Thing.” And this story tells what happened to the Norwegian base.”
“What Universal and Matthijs are trying to do is make a partner piece to “The Thing” while also reinventing the aspect of – modern filmmaking has come a long way – so I guess they’re paying respect to the original while bringing a new time and different [approach] without throwing away what they did in the past.”
The “Thing” prequel co-stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“Die Hard 4.0″) and is shooting in Vancouver. (Source)
